Paola Egonu, super challenge as former in Novara
Numia Vero Volley Milan opens its 2025 at home to Igor Gorgonzola Novara. The Milanese team, in fact, faces the Piedmontese one on Sunday, Jan. 5, at 8:30 p.m. in the third day of return of Serie A1 Tigotà. It will beà third (Novara) against fourth (Milan) in the standings for a confrontation that, once again, promises great intensityà and spectacle.
Both already qualified for the Italian Cup Final Four, Milan and Novara are ready to reignite a challenge that has already seen them pitted against each other 23 times. In the first match, the Piedmontese had imposed themselves in the fifth set after almost three hours; the meneghine – who still have to recover the first day of the return match against Pinerolo – will therefore try to win the match with full points and thus undermine the third position in the standings.
Many exes of the match, starting with coach Lavarini, at the helm of Igor for three seasons, from 2020 to 2023. Among the ranks of Milan, not only Paola Egonu (2017/2018-2018/2019), but also Daalderop (2020/2021-2021/2022), Danesi (2022/2023/2024) and Guidi (2023/2024) have worn the blue jersey of Igor, while old acquaintances of Vero Volley are the powerhouses Squarcini and Mazzaro, in Milan in 2019/2020, 2020/2021 and 2015/2016 respectively.
After winning the CEV Challenge Cup last February, Novara – in its 12th consecutive season in Serie A1 – will take the court with a renewed lineup. Confirmed the setter’s department with the captain Bosio and the young Bartolucci, as well as that of the libero with Fersino and De Nardi. Also confirmed in place 2 for Akimova, this year flanked by the American Mims, and at center for the veteran Bonifacio. Almost completely renewed the hitting department, with the grafts of Ishikawa, Alsmeier, Tolok and Villani. Novelties at center with world champion Aleksic and Italians Squarcini and Mazzaro. Sitting on the bench, for the second consecutive season, is Olympic champion Lorenzo Bernardi.
