United Cup, Paolini and Cobolli overwhelmed: Italy eliminated
United Cup: Italy-Czech Republic 0-2
Italy's journey in the United Cup ends in the quarterfinals. In Sydney, after Jasmine Paolini's clean knockout against Karolina Muchova (2-6 2-6), Flavio Cobolli also didn't stand a chance against Tomas Machac, who overwhelmed him with a final score of 6-1 6-2 in less than an hour of play.
The Tuscan tennis player did not è manage to break the tabù Muchova, who beat her for the fifth time in as many matches. In the first partial, the key game è was the fifth: the Czech got the break on the fifth break ball and from there she strung a partial of four consecutive games that earned her the first partial (6-2).
Muchova’s streak of straight games was è broken at 6 in the second partial, in which the Czech was already ahead by a break (2-1). Muchova repeated it in the fifth game, going up 4-1 and then managed the large lead until the final 6-2 with which she filed the case after an hour and three quarters of play.
Nothing to do for Cobolli either. Upset start for the blue who lost his serve in the first service round with a double fault, immediately going down by a break (0-2). Machac goes up 3-0, here Cobolli moves the score (3-1) but another partial three games in a row gives the first set to the Czech (6-2).
Little history in the second partial as well in which the balance holds until 2-2. From here Machac strung four games in a row and closed out the second set 6-2 as well, taking the Czech Republic into the semifinals where it will face the United States.
