WTA Ranking: Jasmine Paolini still far from the podium
Jasmine Paolini still remains far from the podium in the WTA ranking released Monday, Jan. 6. After losing to Karolina Muchova, which contributed to Italy's elimination in the United Cup quarterfinals with the Czech Republic, the Tuscan remains stable at fourth place in the world rankings.
The disadvantage from Coco Gauff still remains wide: Jasmine è fourth with 5399 points, while the U.S. è third at 6888, a full 1489 points ahead. The Italian more than anything else has to look over her shoulder: China’s Qinwen Zheng, fifth, is only 74 points behind Paolini.
As for the other Italian nationals, Elisabetta Cocciaretto loses three positions, slipping to 55th place, while Lucia Bronzetti loses as many as five, dropping to 78th. Sara Errani also takes two steps back, just outside the top 100, now number 107 in the world.
Paolini will return to the court directly at the Australian Open after a forfeit in Adelaide. I look forward to seeing you next year".
