Giovanni Malagò: "Rino Tommasi undisputed protagonist of our world"

These are the statements of CONI president Giovanni Malagò on the news of the death at the age of 90 of Rino Tommasi, a great master of journalism and sports commentary.

“È was an undisputed protagonist of our world,” Malagò said on CONI’s official website. We are close to the family at this time of great sorrow and sadness for the Italian sports movement”.

Rino Tommasi, born in Verona on Feb. 23, 1934, as a tennis player won four Italian university titles and two bronze medals at the World Student Games. But è from behind the microphone, together with colleague and friend Gianni Clerici, who built his legend with his unparalleled commentaries.

Tommasi è was also president of the Lazio Regional Committee of the Italian Tennis Federation and then a member of the technical committee. Not only that: since he was 25 years old è he has been organizer of boxing events, the’other sport that made him part of the history of sports commentary.

Among the various awards he collected in his career, he won the CONI Golden Pen (1979) and two CONI Sports Literature Awards with the volumes ‘History of Tennis’ and ‘The Great Boxing’ while in London 2012 the IOC honored him as one of the journalists to have covered the most Olympic Games, as many as eleven.
