Spanish Super Cup 2025: Athletic Bilbao-Barcelona, the probable formations

Athletic Bilbao-Barcelona, the probable formations
Closed the Italian Super Cup in Riyadh, with Milan’s 3-2 victory in the final over Inter Milan, Saudi Arabia remains an important stage hosting in Jeddah another Super Cup, the Spanish one. The "Cityà Stadium of Sport King Abd Allah" will, in fact, host the semifinals and final of the tournament that pits the top two from last year’s La Liga, Real Madrid and Barcelona, against the finalists of the King’s Cup, Athletic Bilbao and Mallorca.
The first semifinal è Wednesday’s 8 between Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona: the Basques have won the trophy three times, winning it in 1984 without playing (at the time it was awarded automatically in case of "double" cup-championship), in 2015 with an unexpected 4-0 win just against Barça, as losing finalists of the Copa del Rey, and in 2021 in the final, again against Barcelona, 3-2 after extra time (Iñaki Williams’ goal being decisive).
Despite the two defeats just against Athletic, Barcelona has won the Spanish Super Cup 14 times (an all-time record): successes date back to the 1983, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1996, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2018 and 2023 editions, the latter beating Real Madrid 3-1 in the final, with goals by Gavi, Lewandowski and Pedri for the Blaugrana (Benzema scored the Madridists’ goal).
Probable lineups:
Athletic Bilbao (4-2-3-1): Simon; De Marcos, Vivian, Paredes, Berchiche; Prados, Vesga; I. Williams, Berenguer, N. Williams; Guruzeta. All. Valverde.
Barcelona (4-2-3-1): Peña; Koundé, Cubarsí, Martinez, Balde; Casadó, Gavi; Lamine Yamal, Pedri, Raphinha; Lewandowski. All. Flick.
