Gian Piero Gasperini outspoken about Atalanta’s performance in Udine
Gian Piero Gasperini holds on to the point
A goalpost, a crossbar and a couple of important saves by Carnesecchi: Atalanta risked, and not a little, in Udine, nevertheless coming out with a point given the 0-0 final scoreline but reiterating a few too many doubts that had already emerged in the Italian Super Cup semifinal defeat against Inter in Riyadh. Gian Piero Gasperini spoke on the sidelines of the challenge at the 'Bluenergy Stadium' explaining his point of view.
"In the first half we suffered the physicality of Udinese,” said the Orbici coach in the press conference. “They are a team of quality and quantity, they had a couple of sensational goal actions and we struggled at times, to contain them physically. We went better in the second half taking advantage of a drop by them, but it wasnè t enough".
Gasperini is not looking for alibis for today’s performance: "The opponent was physically superior,” he reiterated, “I am not looking for alibis. Now we have Juventus and Napoli to face, I do not think there is a right time to do it. Too bad we lost Djimsiti but these things happen, let’s see if Retegui and Cuadrado" come back.
Just on Djimsiti, who came off on 24' after a bad collision in the Nerazzurri area, Gasperini added: "He è cut his eyebrow, it took ten stitches. I don't think it's anything serious but he's left with some headache from the blow. On Tuesday (in the midweek match against Juventus, ed.) it will be tough to get him back.”
