Serie A 2024-2025: Milan-Cagliari, the likely lineups

Milan-Cagliari, the probable formations
After taking over from Paulo Fonseca on the back of the Italian Super Cup then won in Riyadh by beating first Juventus and then Inter, Sergio Conceiçao è ready to make his Serie A coaching debut by guiding his Milan team from the bench against an opponent that proved to be decidedly tough in the first leg, Cagliari.
The match in Sardinia against the Rossoblù came just a few days after the Rossoneri’s triumph in Madrid against Real in the Champions League: it ended 3-3, with Cagliari able to score the equalizing goal in the 89th minute, with Gabriele Zappa, who scored a brace on that occasion. Conceiçao promised another Milan but the tactical set-up (a 4-2-3-1) looks rather similar: it will be the attitude that will make the difference, according to the Portuguese coach.
On the other side there's a Cagliari side that certainly won't be in it to play the role of sparring partner. Zappa, "Man of the Match" in the first leg, will try again to make his raids dangerous on the right flank, while in attack Roberto Piccoli wants to confirm himself after the winning goal scored in Monza last Sunday.
Likely lineups:
Milan (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Tomori, Thiaw, Hernandez; Musah, Fofana; Pulisic, Reijnders, Leao; Morata. All. Sergio Conceiçao.
Cagliari (4-2-3-1): Caprile; Zappa, Wieteska, Luperto, Obert; Zortea, Adopo; Makoumbou, Viola, Augello; Piccoli. All. Davide Nicola.
