Anna Kalinskaya, disappointment before debut at Australian Open

There comes a disappointment for Anna Kalinskaya ahead of her Australian Open debut. The Russian, in fact, lost two positions in the WTA ranking updated on January 12. Anna è dropped to 16th place in the world rankings, bypassed by American Madison Keys and compatriot Mirra Andreeva.

Elimination in the first round of the WTA 500 in Adelaide, in which Jannik Sinner’s fiancée è was forced to retire due to an illness at the beginning of the second set against Belinda Bencic, è cost the Russian dearly, who now finds herself outside the top 15 in the world rankings.

If Andreeva had already come dangerously close to Kalinskaya in the rankings, more unexpected è was Keys’ overtaking her. Thanks to her triumph at the Adelaide International, the American jumped as many as six places, overtaking among others the Russian precisely.

Kalinskaya will make her debut in the Australian Slam with Australian Kimberly Birrell. There is still no precedent between the two players: the meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 14.
