Australian Open ends bitterly for Nick Kyrgios
Nick Kyrgios also eliminated in doubles at Australian Open
The Australian Open ends in the worst possible way for Nick Kyrgios. After being eliminated in the first round in the singles draw by Britain's Jacob Fearnley, the Australian tennis player also had to say goodbye in the doubles draw at the opener paired with compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis.
In the derby against James Duckworth and Aleksandar Vukic, the first set è featured a real break fair, as the two pairs lost the serve six times out of twelve total games. What made the difference, however, were the four breaks placed by Duckworth and Vukic that enabled them to win the first set 7-5.
In the second set, comes the withdrawal for Kyrgios and Kokkinakis, as the latter reports a pectoral injury that forces the duo to raise the white flag and leave the doubles tournament immediately.
Following the singles defeat, the Canberra native would not rule out not competing again in singles at his home Slam: ""Realistically, I can't see myself playing singles again here. This è was a special match. I didn’t want to throw in the towel and always give up playing, but I was in physical pain. I respect my opponent and the fans who waited hours to see me play. It's hard to keep going when you compete in the biggest tournaments and you struggle, physically, to even win a set. Having to think about managing my body. This is not è tennis for me. My journey is not è over, but I have had a fantastic journey. My career è has been fantastic" .
