For nine seasons now Federica Brignone and Sofia Goggia have been the golden couple of Italian alpine skiing and are the spearheads of the strongest Italian women’s alpine skiing team of all time.

Today, in her home downhill in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the Bergamasque star won her 26th World Cup race, the Valle d’Aosta woman è placed third 55 hundredths behind her teammate and rival. Goggia also earned her 58° podium in the Cup, Brignone her 74°, moving to the top of both the overall and specialty rankings. where she commands a 9-point lead over Sofia.

It’s the eighth time the two Azzurri women have climbed together on a World Cup podium-the fourth in downhill, while at the World Championships and Olympic Games they have not yet succeeded: between this year, with the World Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, and next year, with the home Games in Milan-Cortina, ’s time to fill the gap.
