After 43 years falls a historic Italian record in athletics
After 43 years a historic Italian athletics record falls: Marta Zenoni won the 1,500 meters at the Luxembourg meeting with 4’03”59, surpassing the 4’04”01 set on March 7, 1982 by Gabriella Dorio and the Italian indoor record ever since.
The 25-year-old from Bergamo, European champion in the cross relay just over a month ago, improved her indoor personal best by five seconds (4’08”92 from last year) and came close to her outdoor personal best (4’03”00).
After the Italian outdoor record, also achieved in 1982 by Dorio and rewritten by Sintayehu Vissa with 3:58.11 at the Paris Olympics, now the indoor record is also improved.
A great satisfaction for Zenoni, who at the youth level had achieved important results such as the world U18 bronze medal in the 800 in 2015 and twice at the European U23 Championships in the 1500 meters, bronze in 2019 and silver in 2021.
Her è a solo in the Silver leg of the World Indoor Tour ahead of Spain’s Marta Garcia (4’09”80), fourth Elena Bellò (Fiamme Azzurre) with 4’10”72.
