Australian Open: Novak Djokovic catches up with Carlos Alcaraz

Novak Djokovic-Jiri Lehecka 6-3 6-4 7-6

It was all easy for Novak Djokovic in the round of 16 at the Australian Open. The Serbian champion, in fact, bent in three sets the Czech Jiri Lehecka, number 29 in the ATP ranking and 24 in the seeding, defeated with the final score of 6-3 6-4 7-6 after two hours and thirty-nine minutes of play.

Deciding the first set è a single break, scratched by Nole in the eighth game (5-3) thanks to a bloody double fault by Lehecka. The Serb did not begrudge and thanked, then closing on serve in the final 6-3. In the second set, however, the balance is broken immediately: Djokovic takes the serve away in the opening game from the Czech and keeps the break lead until the final 6-4.

The third set begins with the same script but Djokovic immediately returns the break (1-1). Lehecka holds out until the tie-break, in which the 10-time Australian Open winner takes the upper hand and wins it 7 points to 4, flying to the quarterfinals.

In the next round Djokovic will face Carlos Alcaraz, who benefited from Jack Draper’s withdrawal at the score of 7-5 6-1 in favor of the Murcian. The Serb è ahead 4-3 in previous matches but Carlitos è holds a 2-1 advantage in matches played in Slams.
