Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori win the final

They will play for the title against the Heliovaara/Patten duo
Another resounding feat for Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori. The Italian pair won the men’s doubles final at the Australian Open. This was the second consecutive final for the well-trodden duo (Simone Bolelli, on the other hand, already won the doubles title in 2015, together with Fabio Fognini).
The Italian pair, the number 3 seed on the scoreboard, got the better of the Goransson/Verbeek duo in a hard-fought semifinal. Really exciting match with the Italians winning in three sets (2-6, 6-3, 6-4 the match’s partials), after almost two hours of play.
In the first set, the Italian pair was surprised by their opponents who, playing very well especially in response, closed the set with a comfortable 6-2. Important reaction by the Italian duo that finds the break at the beginning of the second set and defends it until the end. In the third, decisive, set, on 1-1, another Italian break. After saving a break point on 4-3, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori celebrate the access to the final.
For Simone Bolelli this is the third final in Melbourne where he already won in 2015, paired with Fabio Fognini. In the last act, they will face the Heliovaara/Patten pair (No. 6 seed) who eliminated the Krawietz/Puetz duo in the semifinals.
