Australian Open, Jannik Sinner’s coaches have their say on final with Alexander Zverev

Thusì Jannik Sinner’s coach Simone Vagnozzi in a press conference in Melbourne with Darren Cahill: “For Jannik it has been a very complicated two weeks, he had great difficulties the other day with Rune and again today against a very good Shelton. He handled in the best way all these difficulties; he fought on every point and never gave up a game. For all these reasons è again in the final in this tournament".

"It è never easy to defend a Slam for the first time in your career,” added the Australian coach, “there are a lot of things you have to handle and we couldnù t be prouder of him for the way he handled them, both on and off the court. The way he has dealt with adversity and resilience… extraordinary for a 23-year-old boy. È very young but at times he seems wiser than us… We are not surprised to see him in the finals again, his level è has been very high for months now, but here in Australia he seems to be even stronger".

Over the past 12 months, the Sinner team has experienced great excitement on the court, and great difficulty off the court: "Jannik è very mature for his age,” Cahill explains, “but no one è 'bulletproof'. Since last April, he has experienced moments of great pressure off the court but è he has been able to put it all on one side and è managed to win a Us Open and so much more. We don’t know what will happen in the coming months but he has to keep his head up and be happy with what he is doing. In Italy they can be proud of him".

The Australian coach likes to talk about his work and his 'boys' but not about his future: "Right now we are only focused on Jan and the final on Sunday with Zverev". What final will it be"? "Alexander physically è a beast – Sinner’s coaches say – he has worked a lot on his physique, è a great athlete and has a very good record in fifth-set matches. It will be a tactical match and we know that it will not be easy to do damage to his game. We have tremendous respect for him, the best will win, whoever will be most ready. They face the number 1 and number 2 in the world… è the perfect final".
