Paola Egonu comes back on the hardest moment and puts a stop to it

Paola Egonu is not afraid to revisit the mostù difficult moment

After an unforgettable 2024, which culminated on the national team level with success at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and on the individual level with being named the best volleyball player of 2024, Paola Egonu also spoke about the less pleasant moments on which she è managed to build these successes, without mincing words in the interview she gave to 'Sportweek'.

In particular, Egonu spoke of the months when her fate and that of the national team seemed to have separated, before Julio Velasco arrived to help put the puzzle back together: "If I suffered without the blue jersey? A lot. There was a battle inside me: Paola versus Egonu. Egonu è the one who always wants to play, è honored to wear the azzurra jersey. But Paola was hurt. I was torn: should I continue as Egonu wants or should I give Paola space and time to heal and come back?".

Something was broken with former coach Mazzanti: "I think at some point we were no longer all working for one goal. I think that was the main problem. By stepping back, I showed my teammates that this way I couldné t go on. Because I was suffering from not being able to contribute. And they I think realized Paola, what it means to have her on the court. It made everybody think, including me".

"And when there’è was a chance to get back together, sì there’was some discomfort, but we have been playing together for eight years now and sacrificing, sweating, crying…. And è the chemistry’returned" added Egonu, who since è returned to the national team has been taking such great satisfaction that the hardest period has been forgotten.
