CEV Champions League, group stage verdicts

There will definitely be an Italian team in the CEV Champions League semifinals, as the scoreboard drawn up after the last day of the group stage will see the fratricidal clash between Mint Vero Volley Monza and Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia in the quarterfinals. For Allianz Milano, on the other hand, the place in the quarterfinals è still in question, as the Lombards did not go beyond second place in the group, which forces them to play an extra knockout round.

Vero Volleyball clinched the top spot in Group B by defeating Helios Grizzlys Giesen 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-22 were the results of the individual sets), while Perugia retained the top spot in Group E despite a tie-break loss to Ankara's Halkbank (28-26, 14-25, 15-25, 25-18, 15-12 were the partials that allowed the Turks to celebrate).

On the other hand, Allianz Milano lost 3-0 to Aluro CMC Warta Zawiercie: for the Poles a match without any particular difficulty, won 25-22, 25-21, 25-19. Milan will face in the playoff just the Halkbank Ankara: the winner will face in the quarters against PGE Projekt Warsaw and possibly in the semifinals against the winner of Monza-Perugia.

In the other playoff pairings, France&#39s Saint-Nazaire VB Atlantique will take on Olympiacos Piraeus (the winner will face Jastrzebski Wegiel in the quarters), while Germany&#39s SVG Luneburg will face fellow countrymen Recycling Volleys Berlin for a place in the quarters against Poland&#39s Warta Zawiercie.
