Trento wins big match with Trapani

In front of a fiery PalaTrento for the seventh consecutive sold out, Dolomiti Energia Trentino signed an extraordinary comeback, recovering from -13 and overcoming the Trapani Sharks 83-80 in a heart-pounding finale. The bianconeri, pushed by their own public, scored two decisive triples in the last minute and a half with Anthony Lamb, and Jordan Ford è the MVP with 22 points. For Trapani, however, Justin Robinson’s 20 points, Amar Alibegovic’s 14 and Langston Galloway’s 13 were not enough. The Bianconeri return to the court Wednesday in Istanbul against Besiktas for the last EuroCup game of the season, and then face an away game in Varese before a break for the Italian Cup and national team commitments.

THE STORY – Dolomiti Energia Trentino starts with: Niang, Cale, Pecchia, Lamb and Mawugbe while Trapani responds with: Robinson, Galloway, Petruccelli, Alibegovic and Horton. Cale opens the challenge with a big triple, lighting up the 4,000 fans at “The T Quotidiano Arena” then Mawugbe controls the second offensive rebound of the match and nails a two-handed shot for a 5-0 lead. Trapani unlocks the score with Robinson on penetration, Lamb responds, but again Robinson with a complicated triple and Alibegovic tie the match at seven. Horton signs the first guest lead with a dunk, but Cale immediately responds with a three-point play. Trapani finds a 0-6 break with Alibegovic, Galloway and Notae, while Ellis tries to break the streak, but the Sicilians extend with Rossato and Pleiss, forcing coach Galbiati to timeout at 12-19. On the return, Pleiss again from mid-range, but Niang scores from the lunette and Ford hits a three-pointer. Two consecutive triples by Yeboah give Trapani the maximum lead at +11, but Niang, near the buzzer, scores by getting fouled, setting the score at 19-27 at the end of the first quarter.

Robinson opens the second quarter with an unbelievable triple at the buzzer from ten meters and shortly afterwards he backs up two more points, bringing Trapani to +13. Cale tries to unlock the Bianconeri and Ellis reduces the gap to -7, forcing coach Repeša to timeout. On the return, Zukauskas also joins the match, but Alibegovic answers with a basket in the low post. Lamb hits a three-pointer, Eboua makes 1/2 from the lunette and Mawugbe nails a two-handed shot, bringing Trento back to -4 at 33-37. Trapani immediately reacts with Galloway and Notae, stretching it back to 34-43 and forcing coach Galbiati to timeout. But Trento immediately responds with a 12-0 partial signed Ford and Pecchia, which reverses the match’s inertia. The bianconeri operate the overtaking and close the first half leading 46-43.

Cale opens the restart with a dribble, stop and shoot triple, then Robinson responds in the third. Lamb scores a big basket, but Trapani pulls back to -2 with Galloway, who shortly after signs 51-51. Forray unblocks Trento from the line with two free throws, followed by a triple by Niang that makes the 4,000 HCL fans explode. Ford makes a spectacular basket, and with Bayehe’s free throws, Trento stretches the lead to 60-52. Galloway shortens the gap with a 2/2 at the referee, then scores a front three, but Zukauskas immediately responds. The third quarter closes 63-57 for Trento.

Alibegovic scores from the low post, taking advantage of the mismatch, but Trento responds with an extraordinary choral offensive action, turning the ball among all the players and finding Cale free in the heart of the area. Trapani gets back to -3, but Ford makes a perfect floater from the center of the area. Horton closes an alley-oop and Notae ties it at 67, forcing coach Repesa to timeout. After Yeboah’s 1/2 to the lunette, Ford scores again by raising a perfect parabola, but Notae immediately responds and with Alibegovic’s free, Trapani ties again. Robinson signs the overtake and Alibegovic hits a three-pointer for the host +4. Ellis shortens with a triple, but Alibegovic è glacial from the lunette with a 2/2. Ford is not intimidated and scores the tying triple. Robinson puts Trapani back ahead with a support on the glass, but in the final period Lamb scores the decisive triple, making the T Quotidiano Arena explode. Niang’s free throws close out the game and Trento wins 83-80 in a’fiery atmosphere!
