In the round of 16 of the Rotterdam ATP, Mattia Bellucci, world No. 92, beat Russian world No. 7 Daniil Medvedev with a score of 6-3 6-7 6-3 and will now meet the winner between Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas and Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, Matteo Berrettini’s executioner in the first round.
Bellucci must immediately save a break point in the first game, then forò him to snatch the service from’his opponent on 4-3 in his favor and then close shortly after the first set.
Medvedev saves a beak ball on the’1-1 of the second set, immediately after that he takes the serve away from the 23-year-old native of Busto Arsizio, then the Russian has a double break ball for 5-1 but after saving three break balls he in turn loses his service and is caught at 4-4 after missing two more beak balls.
Medvedev has a set point on 5-4 he misses it and then the second set is decided at the tie-break in which Bellucci goes ahead 4-1 with double minibreak, gets caught up, on 6-5 he has a match point but misses it and Medvedev with three points in a row takes the patita to the third set.
In the first two service turnovers of the deciding partial Bellucci nullifies as many as six break points, two in the first and four in the third game. Mell’eighth game the turning point: Medvedev loses serve and Mattia holds the next serve to zero signing the feat after almost three hours of battle.
