Lorenzo Sonego-Holger Rune 6-7 4-6

An excellent Lorenzo Sonego was not enough to overcome the Holger Rune obstacle in the first round of the Rotterdam ATP 500. The Piedmontese, in fact, had to surrender in two sets to the world No. 14 and No. 5 in the seeding, who è imposed himself with a final score of 7-6 6-4.

An uphill start for Sonego, who gave up the serve in the third game (1-2). The blue, however, soon recovers the break advantage (3-3) and drags the partial to the tie-break. Here the Turinese committed a few too many errors with the forehand and Rune won it by 7 points to 4.

In the second set Sonego è good at cancelling three dangerous break points in the second game and holding out until 4-5: here Rune plays an outstanding answering game, finding four winners that allow him to close the match (6-4) and qualify for the round of 16.

Sonego thus has to leave the ABN Amro Open in which three azzurri still remain in the draw: Matteo Berrettini, who will face Tallon Griekspoor, Andrea Vavassori, opposing Felix Auger Aliassime, and Mattia Bellucci, whoè qualified to the round of 16 where he will take on Daniil Medvedev.
