Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, extraordinary comeback

At stake, this time, was a place on the fianle in the doubles tournament in Doha, Qatar, and not the Olympic gold medal, but Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini nevertheless reaffirmed their superiority over Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider: the same opponents of the Paris 2024 final gave way to the two Italian athletes, who won the victory in a comeback.

Just as in the Olympic Games, Errani and Paolini lost the first set only to put the match back on track in the second fraction and win it in the super tie-break. This time, however, the risk of losing on the concrete of the Qatari arena è was much stronger, as the two Russians had match point at 6-4, 5-4.

The Five Circles champions, however, managed not only to cancel the match point, take the second set to the tie-break and win 7-2 the mini-game, but were able to cancel two more match points in the decisive fraction, on 9-7 and 9-8, going on to win with four consecutive points. 4-6, 7-6(2), 11-9, thus è the final score of the match.

Errani and Paolini will play for the final success against the pair formed by Chinese Jiang Xinyu and Wu Fang-Hsien, an athlete from China Taipei. The two tennis players, in their semifinal match, got the better of Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia and Germany’s Laura Siegemund in two sets, with a rather clear 6-2, 6-3.
