In Sestriere Federica Brignone debilitated by influenza and Sofia Goggia seeks redemption
The three-day women’s World Cup in Sestriere begins tomorrow. Two giant slaloms and one slalom will be held, and tomorrow’s wide-door race makes up for the one cancelled in December in Mont Tremblant.
For Italy in the two jigs will be Marta Bassino, Federica Brignone, Giorgia Collomb, Lara Della Mea, Ilaria Ghisalberti, Sofia Goggia, Alessia Guerinoni, Sophie Mathiou, Roberta Melesi, Elisa Platino, and Asja Zenere; in the one between the narrow gates, Collomb, Della Mea, Celina Haller, Lucrezia Lorenzi, Emilia Mondinelli, Martina Peterlini, Marta Rossetti, and Vera Tschurtschentahler will be on the track. Here are statements from Bassino, Brignone and Goggia on the eve of the first giant slalom.
Marta Bassino: “It’ always nice to come back to compete in Italy, moreover if it is the closest race to home. We did two days of training on the track close to the race track, I am confident, I have been growing in giant slalom, I am not yet at 100% but one piece at a time I can get closer”.
Federica Brignone: “I got sick right after the World Championships giant slalom and today è i first day I leave home. The condition è certainly not at the top, but I really want to compete in front of the Italian fans”.
Sofia Goggia: “I have trained well these days, I am very concentrated to face these two giants in the best way, I feel that I can get good placings again also in this specialty”.
