Federica Brignone stronger even than the flu: hers the giant in Sestriere

Federica Brignone triumphs in Sestriere and stretches in the rankings
After an excellent world championship in Saalbach, Federica Brignone resumed as best she could in the World Cup. The skier from Valle d’Aosta, despite a fever and the flu she had in recent days, dominated the Sestriere giant by setting the best time of 2:12.69 ahead of New Zealander Alice Robinson by a good 40 hundredths. Third place more than a second behind Norwegian Thea Louise Stjernesund.
Croatian Zrinka Ljutic and Swedish Sara Hector closed in fourth and fifth, respectively. Sixth place for American Paula Moltzan, who pays a gap of more than two seconds from the Italian. Completing the top 10 are Lara Colturi, Nina O'Brien, Camille Rast and Julia Scheib.
She fails to improve Sofia Goggia, who finishes in 13th position as happened in the first run. She loses four positions, instead, Marta Bassino who goes from 14th to 18th position. 23rd place, finally, for Asja Zenere.
Thanks to her success in the giant slalom and the exit in the first run by Lara Gut-Behrami, Federica Brignone was able to consolidate her leadership in the overall World Cup standings, bringing her lead over her Swiss rival to 170 points.
