The Saturday of matches on cement in Dubai relagated a new smile to Luca Nardi, after the bitterness of the comeback dreamed of but not completed in Doha against Carlos Alcaraz: the 21-year-old from Pesaro in fact overcame the first obstacle in the tournament in the Emirates, defeating South African Lloyd Harris 6-3, 7-5 in 93' of play.
Despite the power at the service level of today's opponent (as many as 19 aces scored), Nardi didn't get discombobulated much, immediately putting the first set on his side with an immediate 3-0 partial and closing it in nine games overall, after just over half an hour on court.
Decidedly more balanced was the second fraction, which saw a continuous back-and-forth, with no breaks either side, until 5-5. The 11th game, in fact, è was the decisive one, with the Pesaro player able to win it on the advantages before winning game, match and match on his own serve.
In the second round, Nardi will meet Hungary's Marton Fucsovics, the tournament's No. 4 seed, who got rid of Slovakian Jozef Kovalik with a clear 6-0, 6-1 in just 44'.
