The Laureus Academy snubs Jannik Sinner
The Laureus Academy has withdrawn Jannik Sinner's nomination for best sportsman of the year.
The president of the association that awards the 'Oscars' of sports, Sean Fitzpatrick, let it be known in an official note that "following discussions by the Laureus Academy è it has been decided that Jannik Sinner's nomination for this year's Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award will be withdrawn”.
“We have been following this case, the decisions of the relevant global bodies, and while we note the extenuating circumstances, we believe the three-month stop makes the nomination ineligible. Jannik and his team have been informed".
The nominees for the 2025 award, selected by a jury of more than 1,300 leading sports media from around the world in December 2024, will be announced in Madrid on March 3.
