European road running championships with 22 Azzurri
Technical director Antonio La Torre has announced the list of those called up for the first edition of the European Road Running Championships to be held on Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13 between Brussels and Leuven, Belgium. There are 22 selected, including 12 men and 10 women. Prominent among the names for the 10-kilometer race is Nadia Battocletti, Olympic silver medalist in the 10,000 in Paris, reigning European champion in the 5,000 and 10,000 in Rome 2024 as well as in the cross after her success last December at the Antalya event. In the 10 km road race she is Italian record holder with 31:19 last season. On the team in the half marathon is European silver medalist Pietro Riva along with two other athletes who have won continental team gold on the distance: Italian marathon recordman Yohanes Chiappinelli and Pasquale Selvarolo. At the start in the marathon Iliass Aouani and Giovanna Epis. Sofiia Yaremchuk, Italian marathon and half marathon record holder, will be present in the 10 km, with three other Italian nationals from the last Olympics: among the women Federica Del Buono, in the men Eyob Faniel and Yassin Bouih. The program includes the half marathon on the first day, then 10 km and marathon on the second. The finish of all races will be in Leuven, while the marathon will start in Brussels, and in the team rankings the sum of the best three times will count. For the first time in a championship, the races will be open to all participants of the “mass races” who will start together with the elite athletes: thus, a ranking by nations based on the sum of the best 25 times is also introduced in each race.
