World Cup, twenty-eight Azzurri are summoned
The ice hockey national teams are warming up their engines. In fact, the month of April will see three World Championships with Azzurri and Azzurre on the ice. It starts with the Senior Women’s National Team, which from April 9 to 15 will be engaged in Dumfries, Great Britain, in the World Division I Group B. Then space will be given to the U18 men’s national team, which from April 13 to 19 will compete at home in Asiago for the World Championship Division II Group A. Finally, from April 27 to May 3, it will be the senior men’s national team that will take to the ice in Sfantu Gheorghe, Romania, for the World Division I Group A.
Coach Jukka Jalonen’s troop will begin their training camp at the Sparkasse Arena in Bolzano on Monday, April 7. The Azzurri will hold an extended-rank camp, culminating in three friendly matches: on April 18 and 19 against Poland in Sosnowiec (at 6:00 p.m. and 2:15 p.m., respectively) and on April 22, at 7:30 p.m. at the Intercable in Brunico, against Slovenia. The national team will then leave for Romania on April 24.The World Cup opener is scheduled for Sunday, April 27, against Japan, followed by challenges to Ukraine, Poland, Great Britain and Romania.
For the first part of the gathering, the Azzurri coaching staff has summoned 28 players: 3 goalkeepers, 10 defenders and 15 forwards, with Damian Clara currently committed to the United States and who will join the team in the coming weeks. Also absent for the time being is Alessandro Segafredo, who is committed to Zurich, while injured Tommaso De Luca, Giovanni Morini and Alex Petan will not be able to participate in the gathering and the World Cup.
