From Red Bull to Racing Bulls: Liam Lawson tells his truth

Just a few days after the ’official announcement of the “demotion” of Liam Lawson, who will leave his Red Bull seat to Yuki Tsunoda taking the Japanese driver’s place at Racing Bulls, the New Zealand driver broke his silence, explaining to the microphones of ‘Sky Sports Uk’ what he felt and how he handled the parent company’s decision.
“I have to say honestly, it was a shock – explained the 23-year-old from Hastings -I didn’t expect it, even the internal discussions didn’t seem to lead to that choice. The car was difficult to drive, but I was going through an adjustment path. In every session I was dealing with something unknown”.
.
“It is not a driving style issue, rather it was an adaptation issue. You had to have some’ time, I didn’t have it” added Lawson, who in his only two races as a starter in Red Bull did not score a single point, having retired in Australia and having finished 12th, thus out of the points zone, in China.
Lawson had been chosen at the end of last season to replace Sergio Perez, with whom the British-based Austrian manufacturer had broken a contract renewed just a few months earlier. In Formula 1 he has scored 6 points overall, all as a reserve: in 2023 at the wheel of the’Alpha Tauri, the following year in the same team, renamed Racing Bulls, which he will find again from the Japanese GP.
