Lucia Bronzetti, crazy marathon gone wrong

A crazy match that half is enough. Continuous reversals, the result of great plays but also of absurd errors.

In the end, it was Lucia Bronzetti who got the worst of it, exiting already in the first round of the “Credit One Charleston Open” (WTA 500 – prize money $1,064,510) being played on the green clay courts of Charleston, South Carolina, broadcast live on SuperTennis and SuperTenniX.

The 26-year-old from Villa Verucchio, No. 60 WTA, succumbed 75 57 64, after a battle of more than two and a half hours, to China’s Shuai Zhang, No. 176 in the rankings (but who came close to the top 20 in January two years ago), promoted from the qualifiers, despite recovering from 3-5 in the second set (then won 7-5) and from 0-4 in the decisive fraction.
