The Italian Absolute Alpine Skiing Championships awarded the downhill titles on the La Volata slope in Val di Fassa on Wednesday, April 2. The tricolor in the women’s sphere was won by Laura Pirovano, while among the men to boast the title of champion of Italy will be one of the veterans of Italian skiing, Christof Innerhofer.

For Pirovano it is the first ever tricolor title. The 1997-born athlete had won a bronze in downhill in 2021 and a silver in 2024, and he also has a silver in Super-G in 2024 and a bronze in giant slalom in 2017 on his palmarès. On this year&#8217s podium, in addition to the winner, are Nicol Delago, who relinquishes the title she won last year, and Sara Thaler.

Innerhofer, on the other hand, is, at the age of 40’years old, for the third time Italian champion in the downhill, following titles won in 2016 and 2023. The athlete of the Fiamme Gialle (same sports group, among others, as Laura Pirovano) set the best time in the race, burning those of Giovanni Franzoni, second, and Dominik Paris, third.

The Italian Alpine Skiing Championships will be held between April 2 and 5 in Moena and Passo San Pellegrino. In addition to the downhill titles, those relating to Super-G, giant slalom and special slalom will be awarded to both men and women. The competition also counts for FIS scoring purposes and allows athletes from other federations to participate, but they cannot compete for the tricolor title.
