Matteo Berrettini dreams of a big hit with Alexander Zverev

After folding Argentina’s Mariano Navone with a double 6-4 win in the Monte Carlo tournament opener, Matteo Berrettini’s concentration is already turning to the next round, where he will face world number two Alexander Zverev.
“Sascha is a player with different characteristics, but he is not a serve-and-volley player. It will be a different and even more difficult match than the one with Navone. I have a lot of desire to do well, I will go in with pride and a lot of happiness hoping to take home some good memories. He’s a player who has confidence in his tennis and has beaten me four times. It will be a battle, but I train for these matches here and I think these are the conditions to try to make the breakthrough” began the Italian tennis player in the press conference.
“I hope I learned my lesson right away. The ground does not forgive you anything. If you go down a moment in focus or intensity you can get two breaks and everything opens up again. The’only thing you can do is fight, stay there and try to materialize the chances to win” added the Rome native.
“My feeling is that I am competitive a little bit’everywhere, but being raised on the land gives me a hand and I like it. I like the cities where you play on clay. Monte Carlo, Paris, Rome, Madrid […] On grass I have performed better but there are fewer specialists, on clay there are more and so you create that gap. However throughout my career I have scored points on all surfaces” concluded Matteo Berrettini.
