Nations League women, Italy takes brilliant revenge in Denmark

After two consecutive defeats, Italy returned to winning ways in the women’s Nations League, moving into the salvation zone with two matches left in the group stage. In fact, on the fourth day of Group 4 of League A, the Azzurre defeated Denmark 3-0 in Herning, in front of more than 5 thousand spectators: avenged, and above all overturned in terms of direct clashes, the 1-2 of Feb. 25 in La Spezia.
In spite of the score clearly in favor at the triple whistle, for Italy was not an easy trip and it is no coincidence that it was necessary to wait until 59′ for the first goal: to break through the opponent’s wall was Arianna Caruso, whose winning conclusion gave the advantage to the girls coached by Andrea Soncin.
In the final, between 79′ and 86’86’, the other two goals certified the success of the Azzurre: Lucia Di Guglielmo scored to make it 2-0, while Cristiana Girelli, on an assist from Caruso, scored the goal of safety, capable of giving a quiet ending to the Italian representative, at its second success in the round after the’1-0 over Wales last February 21.
The current one is the second edition of the women’s Nations League: the first, staged in 2023-2024, saw the success of world champions Spain 2-0 over France in the final played in Seville on Feb. 28, 2024. Italy participated in both editions in League A, reaching salvation in the first season.
