Once again, unfortunately, soccer is tinged with red. At the Monumental stadium in Santiago, Chile, site of the challenge, valid for the Copa Libertadores, between the hosts of Colo Colo and the Brazilians of Fortaleza, two young fans lost their lives.

According to several Chilean media reports, even before the match began there were several clashes between the two fans. A group of fans allegedly tried to enter the Caupolican sector, breaking down fences. The intervention of police officers would lead to the double tragedy. A vehicle throwing tear gas to restore calm reportedly ran over two people. The victims would be an 18-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy.

As soon as the news of the death of the two youths became public knowledge, Colo Colo fans began violently demonstrating their dissent against the police. Officers attempted to restore law and order in every way.

On 24′ of the resumption, fans invaded the field, leading to the suspension of the match (0-0 the partial score). After about two hours of waiting, with the teams in the locker room, the match was finally suspended (clashes between Colo Colo fans and police continued outside the stadium as well). Obviously, an’investigation has been opened to find out what really happened.
