Virtus Bologna yields in sprint to Barcelona: Dusko Ivanovic pinpoints key to defeat

Virtus Bologna’s Euroleague season ends with a sprinting knockout against Barcelona. At the PalauBlaugrana, in fact, the Vu Nere sold their skins dearly, collapsing in the photo finish with a score of 91-87.

In the first quarter, the Felsinians tried to play it close, but numerous lost balls allowed the Catalans to fly away in the score and arrive at the first break ahead 23-16.

In the second quarter, Barça tries to run away, but the black vures are good at throttling the first attempt to stretch thanks to Holiday’s baskets and the plays of Shenghelia and Zizic. At halftime it is 45-38 for the Spaniards.

In the third quarter Virtus began its comeback, which, first managed to prevent the opponents from escaping, then closed the gap to -3, arriving at the third buzzer down by six points.

In the fourth period, the Felsinians came very close to a breakthrough, as in the first minutes Shenghelia and Holiday completed the comeback, bringing the Bianconeri to +5. In the decisive moment, however, Cordinier mishandles two possessions allowing Barcelona to get back into the game. In the final point-to-all, in the end, it was the Catalan team that came out on top 91-87.

At the end of the match, Virtus Bologna head coach hotly analyzed the defeat of his boys: “The bad decisions made in the final two possessions were decisive in negative for us. We struggled, we had the chances to win and we know that this must still be the way to go in order to better prepare for the next challenges”.
