Six Nations women, Italy returns from Edinburgh with a big win

After defeats against heavily favored England and Ireland, the Italian women’s national rugby team won its first success in the 2025 Six Nations, beating Scotland 25-17 on the road. Sunday’s is the first success as head coach of the Azzurre for Fabio Roselli, interestingly achieved on the very day of his 54th birthday.
Italy reacted to a difficult start, with Rollie’s goal converted by Nelson on 14′ putting the Scots up 7-0, with two heavy scores, scored by Sgorbini on 25′ and Muzzo five minutes later that, although without transformations, put the Azzurre ahead at halftime on 10-7, in a hard-fought game on both sides of the field.
The resumption also began with Scotland on the offensive and scoring, after 5′, with Gallagher for 12-10, but first Ostuni Munizzi at 16′ and then D’Incà at 26′ signed the goals (unconverted) useful for the counter-attack, with Italy going ahead 20-12. With 6′ to go McGhie shortens the distance with another unconverted goal, but Muzzo at 38′ closes the accounts for good: it ends 25-17.
After three days, with two matches still to be played, Italy shares third place with Ireland, on 5 points. Ahead of them all is England at 15 points, followed by France’s 14 points. Closing the rankings are Scotland with 4 points and Wales, the tail end, with 1. On the next day, Italy will face France on Saturday in Parma.
