Italian ski champion Federica Brignone, nicknamed “the Tiger of La Salle,” spoke for the first time since the serious injury she suffered at the Italian championships, and she did so with a smile and her usual determination. In video link during FISI’s Media Day in Milan, Brignone updated fans and the press on her condition, conveying a clear message: despite the forced stop, the desire to come back is there, but without forcing the pace.

“I’m fine, I thought it would be worse,” said the 2020 Overall World Cup winner, who has already started the rehabilitation path with physiotherapy in Turin. The injury, which involved the tibia, will require a long recovery period. “If all goes well, I won’t be able to return to skiing for 4-5 months. Sooner is impossible.”

Despite the forced break, Brignone shows a positive and mature attitude: “What happened happened, there is no going back. I try to live it positively, I want to work in small steps.” Meanwhile, she enjoys the support of friends and fans, and finds time to follow sports on TV, never losing heart.

During the event, there was also talk about the highly anticipated Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, but Federica made things clear right away: “The first thought is to heal. Milan-Cortina? It is a thought that is there, but it is far away.”

The road to recovery will be long and delicate, but if there is one certainty, it is that Tiger has not lost her grit. To Federica goes the best wishes of the entire skiing world.
