Jasmine Paolini, winning debut in a'hour in Stuttgart

Decidedly convincing debut for Jasmine Paolini in the “Porsche Tennis Grand Prix” (WTA 500 – prize money $925,661) being played on the indoor clay court of the “Porsche Arena” in Stuttgart, Germany.

The 29-year-old from Bagni di Lucca, No. 6 in the ranking and fifth seeded favorite, accompanied a by new coach Marc Lopez, beat German Eva Lys, No. 68 WTA, in the first round 6-2 6-1, in just 64 minutes of play.

The Tuscan tennis player had won in two sets in her only previous match with the 23-year-old of Ukrainian origin (she was born in Kiev), played last February in the second round on Dubai’s concrete

Thursday in the second round (round of 16) Paolini, drawn at the top of the draw – that of Sabalenka and Gauff -, finds in the round of 16 another German player, Jule Niemeier, No. 121 ranking, competing thanks to a wild card, who won the marathon match against Laura Siegemund, No. 95 WTA (winner in Stuttgart in 2017 after also reaching the final in 2016), also in the draw with a wild card. The Italian won both previous challenges – rather hard-fought – with the 25-year-old from Dortmund, played in the first round in Parma and in the quarterfinals in Cluj Napoca also in 2022.
