The entry list for the 2025 edition of Roland-Garros, which will be held May 19 to June 8, has been announced. Twelve Italians are currently sure of a place in the main draw, pending wild cards and the conclusion of qualifying: nine in men’s singles, three in women’s singles.

In men’s singles there will be the current nine Top 10 Italians: Jannik Sinner (ATP no.), Lorenzo Musetti (11), Matteo Berrettini (33), Flavio Cobolli (36), Matteo Arnaldi (42), Lorenzo Sonego (44), Luciano Darderi (47), Mattia Bellucci (67), Francesco Passaro (98).

In women’s singles, last year’s finalist Jasmine Paolini (No. 6 WTA) leads the blue trio. Also on the entry list are Lucia Bronzetti (58) and Elisabetta Cocciaretto (89).

The first 104 players and the first 104 women players entered based on the ranking as of Monday, April 15, are admitted to the two draw lists. Those who have been out of the circuit for more than six months can apply for protected ranking: that is, registering with a ranking that does not correspond to their current, but to the average ranking in the three months after the injury. This protection allows only eventual entry into the tournament; in fact, the protected ranking does not apply to the determination of the seeded players. Eight wild cards and another 16 places will remain to be awarded through the qualifiers.

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz could play Roland Garros as the No. 1 and No. 2 seed. It could become the occasion of the first Slam final between the two great rivals who have been characterizing the last few seasons and seem destined to scan the next.

The chances remain very high that Sinner, who officially ascended to the top of the ATP rankings for the first time on June 10, 2024, will reach 52 uninterrupted weeks in his first stint as world No. 1, a feat achieved before him only by Roger Federer (237), Jimmy Connors (160), Lleyton Hewitt (75), and Novak Djokovic (53).

In the men’s entry list used the protected ranking Reilly Opelka, Jenson Brooksby – who just won his first title on the circuit – Sebastian Ofner and Emil Ruusuvuori.

In the women’s draw, defending champion Iga Swiatek will try for the fifth time to win the Coupe Suzanne-Lenglen, the trophy that goes to the winner of Roland Garros. The duel with current world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, who stopped in the quarterfinals last year, will be renewed in Paris.

Four players have used the protected ranking: Petra Kvitova (back on the circuit this year after announcing her retirement from competitive activity), Sorana Cirstea, Jodie Burrage (who will make her main draw debut in Paris) and Yanina Wickmayer.
