Fernando Morientes risked his life, but after the great fear came an even more gigantic relief. The historic Real Madrid striker at the turn of the ’90s and 2000s, also famous for his spell with Champions League finalist Monaco in 2004, is now 49 years old and was struck down by a health problem that could have had even fatal outcomes. Fortunately, however, everything turned out for the best.

This was because of a’pulmonary embolism, which occurred to him as a result of several airplane trips and which Morientes ran the serious risk of underestimating. “After taking so many flights, I began to feel some discomfort – told the ’former Spain center forward to the program ‘Tiempo de Juego’ -I felt a strong pain in my chest, under my sternum, and I thought it was something at the gastric level. That is why I did not go to the hospital”.

.

In the next few hours, however, something changed. “That same night I had strange sensations, so I went to the doctor– continued Morientes. In the heart they found nothing, but then they discovered a pleural effusion. A blood clot had formed at the knee, due to the pressurization in the plane’s airplane. But then the blood thickened, rose up, and turned into a’pulmonary embolism”.

“I stayed for five days in the hospital, risked my life. I tell people who travel often to inform themselves about these risks, knowing about the’existence of these kinds of problems can prove crucial. If you take a lot of planes take heparin with you or, more simply, make wiser decisions and don&#8217t fly as often as I did” concluded Morientes.
