Lecce in disarray: decision on team and Marco Giampaolo

Lecce soccer market: Marco Giampaolo remains at the helm of the Giallorossi club, despite the heavy home defeat suffered Saturday against Como that certainly made the Salentini’s race toward salvation more complicated. The management, however, decided not to take any action, except to send the team into training camp ahead of the next match against Atalanta.

The same club explained it in clear terms in an official note issued on Sunday that suggests that this decision will be confirmed in the coming weeks as well: “U.S. Lecce in reaffirming, until the end of the championship for the achievement of the goal of salvation, the full confidence in the coach Giampaolo, his staff and the entire team group communicates that it has anticipated the departure for Bergamo in order to carry out a period of retreat”.

After his Lecce team’s scorching knockout against Como, Giampaolo had not hidden his frustration to the microphones of ‘DAZN‘. “I take all the responsibility for this. Not only from the whole team, but also from me. So, for this round… I thank you, I thank you, I thank you. You speak about the game, thank you”, he had said before abruptly leaving the microphone.

Lecce has picked up just one point in its last eight games (at home against Venezia last April 6) and has not won in Serie A since January 31 (when it beat Parma 3-1 at the Tardini). And in the next two league games it will face Atalanta in Bergamo and Napoli at home. A schedule then that, legitimately, creates no small concern to the’environment.
