Pope Francis funeral: all Italian sport stops on Saturday

CONI President Giovanni Malagò has announced that Italian sports will stop again next Saturday, April 26, on the occasion of the funeral of Pope Francis. The arrangement came after the Council of Ministers held on Tuesday.
“CONI invites National Sports Federations, Associated Sports Disciplines and Sports Promotion Bodies to suspend all sporting events scheduled for Saturday, April 26, on the day of the funeral of the Holy Father Francis, also renewing the invitation to have a minute’s silence observed in the competitive events that will be played throughout the week to honor the memory of the Pontiff”.
In Serie A, three matches will be postponed: Inter-Roma, Lazio-Parma and Como-Genoa.
The government has proclaimed five days of national mourning, starting Tuesday. The Pontiff’s funeral will be held in St. Peter’s Square starting at 10 a.m.
