Anna Kalinskaya’s Wta 1000 tournament comes to a halt in the round of 16. In fact, the Russian tennis player was defeated by American Madison Keys, the number 5 seed in the Spanish tournament. The challenge lasted almost two hours and highlighted the solidity and greater experience of the American in the key moments of the match.

Kalinskaya tried hard to hold her own against Keys’ power, staying hooked in the score for much of the match. In the first set, despite a good start, the Russian broke serve in the 12th game, allowing her opponent to close 7-5. The second set was even more balanced still, with the two protagonists holding their turns until the tie-break. Even at this stage, however, it was Keys who came out on top, imposing herself with coolness and precision in the decisive moments.

The defeat, however, does not erase the positive signs shown by Kalinskaya during the tournament. Indeed, in the first round she had decisively overcome Frenchwoman Diane Parry, imposing herself 7-6, 6-4 in a very tight match. The Russian confirmed that she is on the rise, but she will still have to work on managing crucial moments to make a further leap forward on the WTA circuit.

Now Kalinskaya is scheduled for a short rest period, before returning to the court for the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, scheduled in Rome from May 6 to 18. An important event where she will try to redeem herself and get valuable points in the middle of the clay court season.
