After the loss to Madison Keys in singles, Anna Kalinskaya redeemed herself in the doubles tournament of the WTA 1000 in Madrid. The Russian tennis player, paired with Sorana Cirstea, overcame the Eikeri/Hozumi duo with a double 7-5 win in just over an hour and a half of play.

After an initial exchange of breaks, Kalinskaya/Cirstea went down by a break in the first partial (2-4). However, there was an immediate reaction from the Russian and the Romanian, who first hooked their opponents (4-4) and then closed the first partial (7-5).

The second set was a close affair.

The second set opened with the same script as the first partial, but then it was Kalinskaya/Cirstea who went ahead by a break (3-2) but were immediately taken back by Eikeri/Hozumi (3-3). In the final, however, a new and decisive stretch by Anna and Sorana allowed them to close the’match (7-5).

Thanks to this success Kalinskaya and Cirstea qualified for the quarterfinals of the ‘Mutua Madrid Open’ in which they will face the pair formed by Czech Linda Noskova and Danish Clara Tauson.
