After Lorenzo Musetti, Matteo Arnaldi also says goodbye to the Toronto Masters 1000. The San Remo native exits at the hands of Alexander Zverev, number one in the men’s draw.

As happened in the’only previous match between the two (Acapulco, last February), the Blue manages to take an early lead, winning the first partial on tie-break (7-6). The German reacted angrily and won the next two sets (6-3, 6-4), taking home the victory after two hours and 48′ of battle.

For the German, this is victory number 500 in the ATP tournament. At the moment, he seems to be the favorite to win the Canadian tournament. Chewing bitterly is the San Remo man who, having to discard as many as 400 points, will now drop out of the ATP Top 50 ranking.

In the other challenges, of note was the defeat of Daniil Medvedev, who was overcome by Alexei Popyrin in three sets (5-7, 6-4, 6-4 the match’s partials). Holge Rune smiles, imposing himself, in two sets (6-2, 6-4), over Alexandre Muller, confirming that he is in excellent physical and, above all, mental condition. Today the two Italian nationals still in play, namely Lorenzo Sonego and Flavio Cobolli, will be on the court. The former will face Andrej Rublev, number 6 on the scoreboard. An all’far from easy challenge for the Piedmontese who, however, has already proven several times that he can overturn the odds. The second, on the other hand, will face Fabian Marozsan from Hungary.
