Tragedy for Sven Ulreich, Bayern goalkeeper announces death of 6-year-old son

An’other tragedy in the world of soccer and sports more generally in a terrible week: after Bari’s new signing Matthias Verreth, the’former Roma goalkeeper Julio Sergio and the centaur Sylvain Guintoli, Bayern Munich goalkeeper Sven Ulreich also announced the death of a son.

Neuer’s deputy in fact confirmed via social media that little Len, due to a serious illness he had been struggling with for some time, died at just 6 years old.

“It is with deep sadness – we read – that we announce today that our son Len passed away a few weeks ago after a long and serious illness. The decision to go public with our story is incredibly difficult for us, but it is an important step for us as a family to provide clarity for those around us and for the public”.

“Together with our daughter, we are trying to find our way back to life, step by step. Special thanks to our families, friends and Bayern Munich for their discretion and tremendous support over the past few months-they mean a lot to us.
