Coppa Italia kicks off, Virtus Entella leads the way: four goals at Ternana

With the match between Virtus Entella and Ternana, played Saturday night and ending 4-0 for the biancocelesti, the 2025-2026 edition of the Coppa Italia began. The match between the Chiavari club newly promoted to Serie B and the Rossoverde club, which instead missed promotion to the second tier only after penalties in the playoff final against Pescara, had no history: it will be Entella that will face Cagliari in the thirtieth round.

The first half ended 1-0 for Virtus Entella, which took the lead in front of the friendly crowd at the Comunale di Chiavari with ex-Cesena Flavio Russo, scoring on 16′. In the second half, the other three goals, scored on 59′ by Andrea Franzoni, on 70′ by Tommaso Fumagalli (seen last year in Cosenza) and on 85’85’ by Stefano Di Mario.

On Sunday, the other three matches of the preliminary round of the Coppa Italia will be played: at 7:30 p.m., an all-Veneto challenge between Padova and Vicenza, while at 8:30 p.m. Avellino will be engaged on the field of Audace Cerignola and, at the same time, Pescara will face Rimini at Stadio Adriatico “Giovanni Cornacchia”.

These are the pairings for the 32nds: Parma-winner Pescara vs. Rimini, Spezia-Sampdoria, Milan-Bari, Lecce-Juve Stabia, Udinese–Carrarese, Cremonese-Palermo, Empoli-Reggiana, Genoa-winner Padova vs. Vicenza, Hellas Verona-winner Audace Cerignola vs. Avellino, Venice-Mantova, Turin-Modena, Cesena-Pisa, Como-Sudtirol, Sassuolo-Catanzaro, Monza-Frosinone, Cagliari-Virtus Entella.

The winners will cross each other in the round of 16, while the top eight seeds, namely Bologna (trophy holder), Lazio, Juventus, Atalanta, Inter, Roma, Fiorentina and Napoli, will enter the round of 16.
