Jannik Sinner: Daniil Medvedev drastic on Azure in press conference
Daniil Medvedev in a press conference in Cincinnati spoke of the duopoly that Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have established, currently by far the two best tennis players on the circuit. In the last year and a half the Slams have been their stuff, and right now all opponents seem far away: “Jannik and Carlos are playing amazingly”.
“They are the two best players right now and they are playing at a level above everyone else. The truth is that there is a lot of talk about them: ‘How’is it possible that no one comes close to them?’. When Carlos entered the circuit at 17, everyone thought: ‘How can he hit so hard?’. And the same goes for Sinner. Because I could train 10 hours a day and still not hit as hard as he does. When they are on a day, and they have a lot of them, there’s no chance for us”.
The Moscow tennis player, however, is not giving up: “This season I have not faced them yet because of my poor performance, but I know that even if they are strong they can lose sometimes. For example, Jannik lost in Halle to Bublik and Carlos at the US Open to Van de Zandschulp”.
On the horizon there is no third rival in sight but Medvedev warns: “I remember when Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal were young. Suddenly, when everyone was starting to take it for granted that they were going to share all the major titles, a Serbian guy appeared who, although he came a little bit’later, ended up winning more than them”.
