When Lorenzo Sonego plays in Cincinnati: his previous record with Taylor Fritz

After a convincing debut with Zizou Bergs, Lorenzo Sonego is preparing to return to the court in the third round of the Cincinnati Masters 1000. The Piedmontese, No. 35 in the ATP rankings and No. 31 in the seeding, will take on Taylor Fritz, No. 4 in the world and in the seeding.

The match between the Blue and the American is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 11, on the ‘P&G Center Court’ of the ‘Lindner Family Tennis Center’ in Mason. Sonego and Fritz will close out the day session schedule: starting at 5 p.m. Italian time (11 a.m. local time) with Bouzas Maneiro-Townsend, then it will be the turn of Aryna Sabalenka, opposing Emma Raducanu, and finally Sonego and Fritz.

There are seven previous matches between Sonego and Fritz with the American holding a 5-2 advantage: Fritz has beaten the Turin native once on grass (first round Wimbledon 2018) and four times on concrete (first round ATP 250 Doha 2021, first round Masters 1000 Paris-Bercy 2021, second round Masters 1000 Cincinnati 2023, second round Masters 1000 Miami 2025).

Sonego, on the other hand, has only won on red with the’American: in 2020 in the third round of Roland Garros and in 2021 in the semifinals of the ATP 250 Cagliari, where he then won the title in the final with Serbian Laslo Djere.
