Out of the Cincinnati tournament after a first-round loss to Adam Walton, Daniil Medvedev confirmed that he was living in a sportingly negative period: in 2025 he has yet to win a tournament and has played only one final, in Halle, losing to Aleksander Bublik. Even at Wimbledon he had succumbed in the first round (against Bonzi), while in the American trip he did not go beyond the quarterfinal reached in Washington.

“I could talk about the heat and humidity that make everything difficult from a physical point of view, but really it is a period when I struggle to have confidence in myself – he confided in the press conference -. If my body betrays me, there is no shot on the court that can help me: it is all so frustrating, you have to admit, however, that it can happen, in sports”.

“The solution? I am looking for it – added the’former number 1, currently 15th in the ranking -, I feel I am still far from being able to say I have found it. The heat is complicated for everyone, I do not explain why it has become more so for me. I have to work with my staff to figure out how I can change the situation and get back to my level”.

Winner of the U.S. Open in 2021 and No. 1 in the ATP rankings as of February 2022, Daniil Medvedev has won a total of 20 singles tournaments, as many as 18 of them on cement, his favorite surface. This season, however, he has suffered both in the early-year trip to Australia (in Melbourne he went out in the second round at the hands of Learner Tien) and, so far, in North America.
