After shining in the’opener, Jannik Sinner had to resort to all his mastery to beat Gabriel Diallo. The world No. 1 won in two sets (6-2, 7-6) after one’hour and 52 minutes of play.

against the Canadian, world number 35, Jannik Sinner did not particularly shine but managed, once again, to bring out the best in him when he was in trouble. In the first set, after going down 0-2, the Azure strung six games in a row and closed the file.

Match already decided? Not at all. Gabriel Diallo, thanks to an explosive first, takes away confidence from the world number 1. And so it goes to the tie-break where Jannik Sinner has to save a set point before taking home a hard-earned victory that earns him access to the round of 16 where he will face Adrian Mannarino, a veteran of the ATP circuit (37 years old).

It should be noted that, during the match, Jannik Sinner also faced several “peculiar” moments. In the first set, comes a stop for a few minutes due to a monitor malfunction. Then, in the second set, another interruption due to an alarm going off in the center stand. Hiccups that, however, did not prevent the world number 1, albeit with difficulty, from winning the match and continuing his path to the Cincinnati Masters 1000 (where he is defending champion).
