Lorenzo Sonego puts his heart into it but it’s not enough with Taylor Fritz

He tried, in all ways, but, in the end, he had to surrender to Taylor Fritz. Lorenzo Sonego was eliminated in the second round of the Cincinnati Masters 1000. The Piedmontese was beaten by the American, the number 4 seed in the men’s draw, in two sets: 7-6, 7-5 the partials.

The first set is all’about balance. Lorenzo Sonego plays evenly with Taylor Fritz, conceding only two break points at 6-5 in favor of his opponent. After nullifying them, it went to the tie-break where the American won 7-4.

At that point, match halted due to a power outage. The match resumes after more than an hour of suspension. Lorenzo Sonego plays with great determination, managing to hold his own against Taylor Fritz. The latter, however, finds a way to break the Azure at 6-5 in his own favor, closing the file. Bitterly chewing Lorenzo Sonego, who, on the court, gave everything he had to try to take home the win.

To the round of 16 goes Taylor Fritz who will face Frenchman Terence Atmane who beat Brazilian Joao Fonseca in two sets (6-3, 6-4). In the other matches, of note was veteran Adrian Mannarino’s victory over Tommy Paul, No. 13 on the men’s draw. The 37-year-old Frenchman won in three sets: 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. Now he will face world No. 1 Jannik Sinner.
